Naag Champa
Resinous, incense-led and warm. It shapes the atmosphere of Puri Temple Air and Ganga Aarti.
At dusk in Varanasi the lamps go up together and the smoke sits over the water for a while before it lifts. Incense, river air, and something sweet from the sweet shops behind the ghat.
Naag champa leads. Sandalwood holds it down. Lavender opens the top so it does not sit heavy, and a little vanilla at the base keeps it warm rather than solemn.
Fragrance
Naag Champa, sandalwood, lavender and vanilla.
The wick
Wood, not cotton. It crackles as it burns. Trim it to about 3 mm before each lighting.
Care
On the first burn, let the melted wax reach the edge of the vessel. Never leave a burning candle unattended or within reach of children and pets.
