Oudh essential oil is steam-distilled from the resin of the agarwood tree (Aquilaria agallocha) — Agaru in Sanskrit. Its scent is woody, earthy, rich and musky. In Ayurveda, Agaru is described as ushna (warming) and Kapha-Vata pacifying, and has been burned as incense for centuries.
Ayurveda holds that fragrance — gandha — touches the mind, and that different scents bring different doshas back into balance.
